Have to say loved the fact last night that Kirby noted how the Bears offense was using the motion to get all their receivers so wide open last night! Must have read TMQ!
"But it’s convenient for the Washington establishment to dismiss the eight – because they focus on reducing national debt. The Washington establishment does not want to deal with this issue, or even admit it exists." you say.
Fair, but they cared not a lick about any of that when they were in power. This is merely a convenient argument for their nationalist, socialist, populist, claptrap, nothing more. Let us not lionize them as if they worked hard to do serious governing on economic policy.
P. J. O'Rourke: Democrats are the party that says vote for us and you will be taller, richer, better looking, and we'll clear up your crabgrass. Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work. Then they get elected and prove it.
I believe it was Pete Peterson who said: The U.S. economy works because xx million Americans get out of bed in the morning and go to work. And then their income is taxed, unlike the wealth of the trust-fund flunkies who gain the tax cuts for which their campaign donations are intended. Our columnist's analysis largely ignores tax cuts for the wealthy that have added to the deficit. I also notice that few mention the deficit or national debt when a Republican is in the White House. As Dick Cheney said, Deficits don't matter...
Tax cuts don't necessarily add to the deficit. After most tax cuts revenues go UP. The problem is not on the revenue side. It is always on the spending side.
Why is the focus all on the spending side? We had massive tax cuts in 2001, then fought a war. We had massive tax cuts in 2018, then fought a pandemic. Clinton, Obama and Biden have all reduced the deficit. This isn’t a both sides thing.
We have the same problem in Canada, with a Prime Minister (re-elected twice) who gave us such gems as "If you grow the economy, the budget will balance itself." and "You'll forgive me if I don't think about monetary policy."
(And an opposition that largely also ran up deficits when they've been in power over the last 40 years.)
in other news, my wife the diplomat just had her picture taken with two Amazon-tall female Mounties. the picture is so charming I'm tempted to post it in the Stack
1) I have decided to load up my credit cards without paying them back. Debt is meaningless
2) I have decided to stop paying taxes. I am retired, so there is no incentive to pay taxes.
3) I will keep buying Kruggerands and ammunition until this whole house of cards collapses.
We have the examples of Greece and Venezuela in front of us and choose to ignore them. Those on the right are quick to point out all the examples of communist/socialist societies that didn't work, but turn a blind eye to debt-loaded societies that didn't work. It always depends on whose ox is being gored.
Is the “ Congress does nothing, much more concerned with who gets to send Tweets” a reference to the Twitter Files / Matt Taibbi / social media government censorship reporting or something else?
Just want to give a shout out to my alma mater SBU for having a social sciences person of note...the same social sciences department they keep gutting to fund a pathetic football team and oodles of formal science programs that are already huge. (I'm biased as a history graduate)
The current situation re deficit spending inflation reminds me of the jokes about the man who's fallen halfway down the Empire State building. No problems so far!
Think my kids care when down the road after I'm gone, they will struggle ? I guess my only advice now is work hard, save and pray. We older sots followed a party for years and both have a long list of proven failures. Taking sides is laughable.
it's just general anti congress slander (though Pelosi and the new temporary speaker have been arguing over whop gets the best office)

And I cost less than a scouting department!

Two sides pointing fingers.
